Mack McEvoy

Biography

Alan ‘Mack’ McEvoy was born in Portlaoise, Ireland. He showed a keen interest in music as a child which ultimately led to a successful 16 year career as a professional drummer/vocalist, touring extensively in Ireland, UK, Scandinavia, Europe and North America with the hugely popular band Big Generator, one of Ireland’s foremost touring bands. During this time Mack became a household name and acquired a legion of fans and friends at home and abroad through hard work, dedication and much critical acclaim. With Big Generator he enjoyed chart success and played in some of the world’s best known venues alongside some legendary bands. Big Generator continues to have a high profile in Ireland and internationally and passionate following on social media. Mack remains close to the band and occasionally makes surprise ‘special guest appearances’ at their live shows. He continues to play regularly in his spare time and is an in-demand and versatile freelance drummer and vocalist.

When his touring days came to a close in 2008, Mack immersed himself in another area of his life for which he had a growing passion – working with and teaching children, in particular those with Special Needs. After gaining the relevant qualifications he worked for 4 years in a Special Needs school alongside children with varying levels of disability from mild to profound, after which he took up a post in the Learning Support Department of a mainstream school where he still works today. During this period he began to write poetry and children’s books, started his own drum academy and became a father to two children, with whom he spends four days a week as a stay-at-home Dad.

Through the children he has worked with, along with the experiences he has shared with his own kids, Mack quickly recognised the myriad of issues and challenges that children (and consequently their parents) deal with on a daily basis. Inspired by this, he has now completed his first series of six children’s books, entitled The Greenhills Gang. It is a collection of wonderful and heartwarming stories about a loveable group of six farm animal friends, with each book carrying an important and educational message for young children about topics such as body image, bullying, friendship, sharing, trust and anxiety.

Mack lives in Fermanagh, Northern Ireland with his wife Donna and their two young children, Jacob and Myla.
